Travel planning organisation
With planning the trips I have taken a different approach. Instead of just looking at sites for tourists I thought to see if there are sites tailored for location scouting for filmmakers and fortunately there is one named Filming in England which provides a gallery of shots around different areas in the UK.
-
Using this in combination with Google Earth for getting the feel of the locations, ideas to shoot in said location and Google Maps for the planning, I am able to plan a more efficient trip.
Nottingham Day Plan
Temperature: 5 - 13C
Weather: Light rain
Arrival
[7:24 - 8:35]
This time has already been decided when we bought the tickets and it's strictly because of trying to get the best pricing at the earliest time we could get there.
Town Centre
[8:35 - 11:00]
-
The Nottingham train station lake next to the Old Victorian Train bridge is featured on Filming in England under the east midlands tab. Upon seeing it, I immediately wanted to know if I could film in that location.
-
At the centre of Nottingham, the Nottingham council building is a memorable place as it stands centre detached from its surroundings with an open area in front which may hold many fair-like activities.
-
The alchemist is a cocktail bar & restaurant just tucked away to the left side of the council building which features this triangular red brick-shaped building that contrasts the opaquely coloured buildings surrounding it.

The Arboretum
[11:00 - 1:00]
The Arboretum is a park that hosts hundreds of trees and flowers that date back to the 19th century and is still being maintained today. I think this would be a good location to reflect the nature parts of Nottingham
Wollaston Park
[2:00 - 4:00]
The Wollaston Park consists of the Nottingham Natural history museum which is a castle like structure ontop a mound and with this structure in the centre of the park, sourrounds the deer that inhabit the open areas of the park which although restricted to be fed, are a common vistor attraction.
Nottingham Uni
[4:00 - 7:00]
-
The Highfields park University entrance sports a lake, a line of trees and an opening towards the Trent building of the university of Nottingham.
-
Of course, Nottingham is rightfully named as one of the cities for students, Nottingham university's campus itself is what attracts people to the city and also welcomes visitors to walk inside.
Departure
[Open return]
Because we have booked Open-return tickets, We have some flexibility in overrunning in case we spend too long filming in a location or trying to figure out a problem along the way. But even though this is the case we aim to shoot all the scenery shots during daylight
Equipment prep Video
To summarise:
Included - Camera strap, TASCAM portable recorder, Extra batteries, Small tripod

Excluded - Camera Gimble
-
As I will not be joined by anyone to help carry it and also the fact that it's planned to rain during the day, I decided to not bring my gimble and replace it with a smaller tripod. This is because I am concerned with the amount of weight I will be carrying myself and also because the camera requires a cable routed to the gimble for the focus wheel to work this required the waterproof flap to be open therefore being a risk for equipment damage.
