Short Film 2: Cambridge

[13th Mar - 2nd Apr]

Research

As unfortunate as the failure of the stereo lav mic test was, it is a good learning experience and a representation of the limit of DIYing with devices that aren't supposed to work as it was originally intended. That is not to say to not try but with the number of variables necessary to work together, it would be hard to diagnose what the main problem(s) was to try and get it to work.

With that being said, as much as this is a learning experience, this did take a large amount of time which inevitably set back other types of research (Location research) that have proved to be more important. Of course, this was unforeseen as I had not known how long I needed to give notice to areas I wanted to go to film but I will use the next week to plan more in advance for the other cities I have planned for this FMP

Filming

As mentioned in the Location Research, I ended up cancelling the Cambridge trip due to the amount of notice time to be given permission to film in the locations I wanted to go to. Because of this, I will use this time instead to catch up on any work that I have not finished and also research more into the other cities keeping in mind the amount of notice I may need to be able to film at those locations.

In this case, I will be able to book or send them an email during this week in order to plan the day in time for the shoot. Click on the link above to see the in-depth reasoning.

Evlauation

Because of the cancellation of the Cambridge shoot, although it is unfortunate, allowed me to realise how much time I should be using to plan the trips in a more in-depth manner. Furthermore, because of this cancellation, I now have the time needed to pre-plan the rest of the trips and send any emails needed for me to be able to shoot in locations that I am interested.

With the audio research, although it did not succeed, as said before it is a great learning experience trying to problem solve and attempt to DIY a device that is required for my work. I will further take this incentive to attempt on making the equipment needed if I have the required materials and parts to build it as it might prove to be useful and am willing to learn from it if it were to fail.
